We’re super excited for the release of Kokatat’s new Neptune PFD and given response when we put it online earlier this year it wasnt just us.
Kokatat bill the Neptune as an incredibly comfortable option for canoe and kayak touring both inland or down on the coast.
The Neptune is a front zip entry PFD with eight adjustment points; two each side, two at the waist and two shoulder straps, Kokatat have seriously considered where the adjustment points are positioned on the PFD. Everything on the Neptune is situated at the front of the PFD for ease of use. No more struggling to reach behind you to find that pesky webbing.
Floatation (16lbs in the M/L) is provided by 7 super soft Gaia PVC free foam panels, allowing for an exceptionally comfortable, figure hugging fit that also provides all around protection for your torso. Distributing the floatation this way helps reduce bulk and give the Neptune its relatively low profile . Super wide padded shoulder straps also help to ensure all day comfort.
In terms of practicality the Neptune comes equipped with five well thought out pockets and is compatible with a number of Kokatat’s existing accessories.
Two large “pouch” pockets with curved zips, a third vertically zipped pocket behind the right pouch pocket, a snap-popper-fastened folding knife pocket behind the right pouch pocket and lastly a VHF pocket, with a single hand operated buckle.
Solas reflective tape on the shoulders make it even easier to be seen by other water users while out and about.
Fleece panels on the inside of the chest panels provide the ideal spot to warm your numb hands.
Finally should you want to the Neptune is compatible with Kokatat’s Quick Release Belt.
To summarize the Neptune looks set to be a strong competitor in the Sea-Kayaking / Touring PFD range, especially at the competitive price of £129.99. Come on down and try one on, the kettle’s always on.
